Frequency and intensity of hiking
Our products are rated according to three levels of practice.1. Occasional use:10 hikes per year lasting about 3-4 hours, covering less than 10 km and less than 700 m elevation gain.
2. Regular:20 walks lasting 4-6 hours, 10 to 20 km, elevation gain from 700 to 1200 m
3. Intensive:more than 20 walks lasting more than 6 hours, more than 20 km, elevation gain from 1,200 to 2,000 m.
What size should you choose?
We advise you to try several sizes and styles of boots to find the one that fits you best. You can take one size larger than usual to prevent your toes from hitting the toe area when descending, provided that the foot is properly supported to avoid rubbing.
How to try on boots?
1. Try on both boots, standing up, with the socks you wear for outdoor hiking.2. Tighten the laces, distributing the tension evenly.3. Check two aspects:
- that your heel does not lift in front of the boot when walking uphill
- that your foot does not slip and your toes do not hit the front when descending.
Technical nature of the Outdoor Contact sole
The grip and increased resistance of this high-performance sole are due to an exclusive rubber blend. The design of the sole is what strengthens the grip. Our laboratory tests evaluate the adhesion coefficient on different surfaces/conditions, our field tests in the mountains confirm this.
What is the difference between traction and grip?
Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents the boot from slipping backward and stabilizes it.It depends on the number and shape of the boot's crampons.Grip prevents the boot from slipping and sliding on smooth terrain or in difficult conditions.
How to extend waterproofness?
We advise you to re-waterproof your boots twice a year, using a waterproofing product (available on our website/in Decathlon stores) for continuous water protection. You can use waterproof gaiters to prevent water from penetrating from the top of the boot.
How to care for your boots
1. Let your boots air dry.2. Remove dry mud with a stiff brush.3. Clean stains with a brush and a little warm water and let them dry.4. Use a re-waterproofing spray to restore water resistance to the upper.
replace shoe insoles
The original sole of your boots is designed to fit most feet.An insole change can provide:
- Better support (pre-formed or reinforced insoles)
- More comfort (warmth and/or cushioning)
- Longer boot lifespan.

Waterproofing test
We conduct tests in the laboratory. The boot is immersed in water up to mid-height in a mechanical arm that bends to simulate a certain number of steps. With this test, we can determine the time and number of kilometers the boot can travel while remaining dry. Then we confirm these capacities in the field and in the rain, through usage tests.
Thanks to the high upper and water resistance, these boots offer support and protection, keeping your feet dry even in rain, on wet ground and on technical trails.
