Does your child want to take their first steps in skating? These skates are ideal for developing motor skills and balance, comfortable and soft!
Play 3 skates celebrate 8 years of helping young skaters :)
We are very proud to be 8 years old! And thanks to your feedback, we have been able to continuously improve these skates. For example, you gave us the idea of a "stability kit": a small screw at the back of the skate used to fix the wheels like a tricycle. It's really simple and makes it much easier for children to learn to skate. We recently improved the fasteners that secure the skates. So, we want to say a big thank you!
Optional stability kit (ref. 8282768)
The equipment set, also called a "stability set", can be mounted on PLAY3 and PLAY5 lace-up skates of any size. This "stability kit" means that children can start in "tricycle" mode: It's the ideal way to increase stability on their first rides so they gain confidence. The kit is pre-assembled on all PLAY3 lace-up skates, size 8C/9.5C.
Technical stuff: wheels and bearings
Although more experienced riders will have ABEC 1 to 7 bearings, for these skates we have used bearings that are more suitable for young beginners so they can enjoy a smooth and safe ride. Essentially, these skates glide slower. As for the wheels, they have a diameter of 63 mm.
What safety precautions should you take?
We recommend everything: helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Because you never know what part of your body you'll fall on.
Rubber or plastic wheels and brakes?
Unlike plastic, which slides but doesn't brake, the rubber on these 63 mm wheels provides good traction: This prevents your child from slipping when pushing forward, and also helps them brake effectively. Furthermore, rubber wears out slower than plastic. Our Oxelo teams work hard to keep your child safe - regardless of their experience. So, we've chosen to equip all our children's skates with rubber wheels and brakes, not PVC.
How do you make your wheels last?
The wheels will wear out faster in some parts of your skates. So, change their positions regularly. It's time to change them when they've worn down to the first of the seven visible rings inside the wheel.
Do you want to repair or maintain your skates?
You can find wheels of different sizes (including glow-in-the-dark ones), brakes, and compatible screws on our website and at your local Decathlon workshop. It's all easy to assemble. How to adjust the size
See the small tab at the front of the boot? Simply move the stick tab to the desired number. 1 for the smallest size, 2 for the medium size, and 3 for the largest size. The space at the front of the foot is then freed up and you gain 2 sizes. Clever, right?
How do we test our skates?
All our skates are tested in the lab. These tests confirm compliance with European standards, as well as checking wear and tear. We also conduct field tests - some measured and others based on testers' opinions. The result is a tested, proven, and approved product. Including riders from our partner skating clubs!
