We designed this UV-resistant top for beginner surfers who surf in foam.
How to choose your UV protection top (Part 1)
All our UV-resistant tops are UPF50+, meaning they have the maximum level of sun protection. The choice between them will be based on sleeve length and will depend on their intended use. Constraints are greater for surfing, so we decided to build our range primarily for surfing. For surfing, the choice will be made according to the duration of your sessions: 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.
UV protection even when wet.
The fabric of this OLAIAN anti-UV product blocks at least 98% of UVB radiation and 95% of UVA (UPF 50+). This guarantees effective sun protection. It can be used both in and out of the water, for water or marine sports. The density of the textile fibers filters UV rays, for long-lasting protection, even after washing. Caution: the elastane contained in the fiber may deteriorate in chlorinated water.
Loop for attaching shorts
This UV protection top has a loop on the front to attach the drawstring of swim shorts so that it doesn't ride up while surfing. This solution is recommended for sessions up to 1 hour. For more than an hour, we recommend choosing the UV top 500, which also has a drawstring at the hip for better stability. Unwanted riding up of the top can cause irritation in the lower abdomen.
Against irritation
This UV-resistant top helps to limit friction and irritation due to contact with the surfboard or bodyboard. It can also be worn under a wetsuit to limit friction, especially around the neck and armpits. The reduction of friction from paddling movements is proven for one-hour sessions. If you plan to surf for more than an hour, the UV top 500 will be a more suitable choice with its seamless panels under the armpits.
Behavior in the sun
Even though this top provides sun protection, phenomena such as reflections (from water, sand, etc.), heat, time of day, etc., must be taken into account. Wearing this top does not exempt the wearer from adopting appropriate behavior: Wear sunglasses, wear a hat or cap, regularly apply a suitable sunscreen, drink regularly, etc.
UV protection top for multiple water sports
Our UV tops are designed to meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. Our design choices also make them compatible with other water sports such as swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, sea walking, or SUP (stand-up paddleboarding).
How to choose your UV protection top (Part 2: According to session duration)
1 hour: Occasional practice. You can choose a loose cut for comfort when dry or a tight cut for comfort when wet. A loop system to attach it to shorts ensures product stability. 2 hours: Regular practice. Comfort when wet is increased by seamless panels under the arms and a drawstring which further increases stability. 3 hours: Intensive practice. Additional warmth to help you stay in the water longer.
What does UPF 50+ mean?
UPF is a sun protection factor (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) and is standardized worldwide. It defines the level of protection of a fabric and, more precisely, the percentage of UV rays it allows to pass through. To meet the standards, it must block at least 95% of UV rays. UPF 50+ means that the fabric blocks at least 95% of UVA rays and 98% of UVB rays.
