WATERPROOFING OF THIS JACKET
The water-resistant properties of this jacket are not limited to its components: The assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion. Sewn and then sealed, the overall waterproof properties of your jacket are measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon that simulates rain of varying intensity. As such, this waterproof NH550 jacket protects you from a shower, equivalent to 12 cm of rain in 2 hours.
Technical lining
The jacket's lining is made from two materials: mesh in the back to improve the garment's breathability and nylon at the hips to maximise ease of movement and resistance to wear. We have used an ultra-soft fabric in the hood for added comfort.
Maintaining your jacket's performance
To preserve the fabric's ability to resist water, we recommend reactivating it regularly. Do this every three washes (it is important to rinse thoroughly) or after a dozen uses in the rain. You can easily reactivate the water resistance property by heating the fabric:
- in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetics program)
- with a hairdryer 20 cm back and forth twice
- or twice over an iron on a delicate setting without steam
Choose your waterproof jacket according to your sporting efforts
This jacket is designed for a daily walk at a speed of 5 km/h on flat terrain. During sporting activity, the rate at which we sweat depends on the intensity/duration of the physical effort. If the fabric's breathability is not adapted to your type of physical activity, sweat vapour condenses inside the jacket. You will feel damp: It's not rain falling, but condensation of sweat vapour. Choose a waterproof jacket according to your level of physical activity.
Waterproofing of this jacket's component
The waterproofing of a fabric by a coating or a membrane is measured in Schmerbers or H20 mm (pressure of a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric is. This jacket is designed with a waterproof coating (JIS 1092 standard): This component resists 5,000 mm H20 (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5-meter column of water).
Technical hood
The hood can be adjusted in height using a drawstring. It can be adjusted in depth thanks to a velcro strap at the back of the hood. The hood has a shape-memory visor for good face protection.
Complete pocket system
The jacket has a total of seven pockets! Two side pockets for hand warming. Two large external gusseted pockets with flap and snap button closure. An external chest pocket and an internal zipped pocket to secure your personal belongings. An internal mesh pocket, to hold gloves for example, and to keep them warm close to your body!
Fabric breathability
The fabric of this jacket is breathable: RET = 12. The breathability of components is measured by their thermal resistance to evaporation (RET). This is its ability to allow water vapour generated by the body during physical activity to escape and thus avoid water accumulation on the skin. The lower the RET, the more ventilated the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very ventilated fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability
