Need to keep food warm (or cold) for several hours? Our designers have created this simple, lightweight isothermal stainless steel food box.
How is thermal insulation tested?
We tested this food container in the laboratory according to standard EN 12546-1, at an ambient temperature of 20°C and filled to its capacity. The time it takes to drop from 95°C to 50°C (the temperature perceived as warm enough to eat) is 10 hours.
Top tips...
In addition to keeping food warm, you can also keep it cold during your outdoor excursions. There's nothing better than a spoonful of ice cream halfway through a hike to motivate children (and adults!). You can also use your box as a yogurt maker: Boil milk, let it cool to around 43°C (warm but not scalding), then pour the milk into the box with a spoonful of yogurt. Close the box and leave it overnight (between 6 and 10 hours).
How does the isothermal element work?
We use a double wall of stainless steel with a vacuum between them to block thermal exchanges by conduction or convection. To block exchanges by thermal radiation, a thin layer of copper covers the outside of the inner wall. The top is insulated thanks to an internal insert made of expanded polystyrene.
Materials and regulations
Our products and materials comply with the current standards for contact with food. They do not contain Bisphenol A (BPA) in accordance with current French regulations. We have chosen to use 18/8 (304) stainless steel for the reservoir, known for its food safety, and a heat-resistant and shock-resistant polypropylene for the top. The seal and handle are made from silicone, an extremely durable material.
Function
This simple product consists of 4 components (stainless steel reservoir, separate polypropylene lid, silicone gasket and handle) that can be separated if necessary. We chose a wide opening of 8 cm in diameter to make it easier to wash and fill the box. The soft handle makes it easy to hold without taking up space once you've put it in your bag. Do not heat in the microwave.
First use
Rinse the entire product 3 times with clean water before using it for the first time.
Product design: our expertise
Our global design center in Quechua is located in Passy, at the foot of Mont-Blanc in Haute Savoie. This location makes it a real meeting point for our teams (designers, product managers, engineers, etc.) and outdoor sports enthusiasts. An excellent asset for designing your mountain hiking products and offering you all our expertise.
Tips for maximizing the performance of your isothermal box.
Fill the food box with hot water for 5 minutes and then replace the water with hot food. Close the box. The more full the box is, the more effectively it keeps its contents hot or cold. This box has a smaller volume and will not stay warm for as long as a larger and filled box. Choose the 0.8 L model if you want the most isothermal product.
Care tips
Dishwasher safe product (lid + body). Be careful, in this case, do not lose the top seal. Dry without covering. The seal and handle can be removed for thorough washing and drying.
Double-wall stainless steel with vacuum for insulation. Compact and lightweight with a wide opening. Its soft handle and screw-on lid make it practical (0.5 liters).
